Bright red tomatoes, cool green cucumbers, peppers and buttery yellow squash -- almost like a September rainbow!
It is now that we admire and enjoy the work and care with which we handled seedlings, tied up teenage plants and faithfully watered our August gardens. Each lovely veggie has its own shape, size, beauty and flavor.
In June I watered a tiny mounded cucumber plant, and thought of the creamy dill salad it would provide for a cool evening supper on the deck with my hubby.
Securing burgeoning tomatoes to a post, I reminisced eating them warm, straight from dad’s garden, sprinkled with a little salt. Nothing better!
I craved my Aunt Helen’s tomato, onion, potato, zucchini and cheddar cheese skillet bake every time I saw a blossom on the zucchini plants. I thought about how my cousins seemed to devour the casserole as quickly as my aunt could make it!
It seems all the best things are first dreamt of, then worked for and tended to with care.
Their true fruits are joys that transform our simple “every days” into a extraordinary memories.
Excuse me now while I pluck some tomatoes from the vine and get out my salt shaker ☺♥
