"The first time you share tea, you are a stranger.
The second time you share tea, you are an honored guest.
The third time you share tea, you become family."
-- T. J. Klune
I think back to how many times in my life I've enjoyed a hot cup of tea -- with my mother and sisters. With my high school friends. With my girls. With other moms.
But sometimes the best cup of tea is the one you give yourself -- when you need a pick-me-up in the afternoon. When you need to bring some calm. When you watch the snow falling outside your window and know that you belong under a fluffy blanket with a steaming cup of a sweet smelling chamomile, Earl Grey or plain black! And maybe for no other reason than the enjoyment you know it will bring.
A few years ago, my sister hosted a proper tea party by her flower garden, with little lanterns in the apple tree and trays of sweets. It was a beautiful day spent enjoying the flowers, the sunshine, the nieces and nephews running through the yard and later catching lightening bugs. This fancy tea party was so much fun!
In the end, though, I think the teas I treasure most are those I've sipped in my cozy armchair in my quiet house, in the middle of the afternoon that have whispered to me, "all is well."
