What is it about freshly washed sheets hung to dry on a springy bird-song morning with the sunrise greeting the day? Or under a clear blue calm September sky with crickets humming their peace into the surrounding mountains.
In a world where many things come almost instantly, hands-on work in the fresh air sparks in me a deeper feeling of helpfulness. A knowing that the actions of these small moments will wrap around loved ones -- sweet smelling sheets giving them a calm embrace into the night. A feeling of home.
When I do scrapbooking, I put together family photos highlighting milestones like birthdays, christenings, proms, Christmases -- trying to hold onto memories that over the years seem to slip through my hands.
But in the end, when I think about my favorite things or when I go through low points and choose to turn to images of happy moments -- I always find myself hanging laundry on a summer morning. ♥
