When she was small, one of our daughters said, "Mommy, I feel bad for Thanksgiving."

"Why's that Hun?" I said.

"Because everyone forgets about it and goes straight to Christmas!"

I laughed and told her, "I agree, Hun."

We didn't tend to decorate for the Christmas Holidays before celebrating Thanksgiving back then. But most commercials and department stores sure did and still do!

I have to admit, though, as I get older, I want to bring Christmas spirit earlier and earlier each year!! ☺ If that makes you happy, go for it!

There's a kernel of wisdom, though, in what our daughter observed. Each season brings its own beauty to be enjoyed. Christmas remains my favorite, with all the fun and gladness that goes along with it!

But Thanksgiving tends to give the feeling of quietness, simplicity, gratitude. And that touches a certain part of the soul that is very soothing. I think if we skip over that special healing balm, we're sort of robbing ourselves of something extremely special.

So, as I'm stuffing the turkey this year, I'm going to try to remember to appreciate the gift of slowing down, reflecting and realizing all the things we have to be thankful for. ♥
