Bottles
Forgotten things, cast away on an ordinary day, -- a soda bottle, another that held pills, the other perhaps a beer. A beer maybe shared under a starry sky on an ordinary night. All scattered in a junk pile where items were tossed or burned. The kind that was found in the back yards of coal company houses like ours and perhaps many homes and farms in years gone by. Long buried in a grassy area behind our garden.
We have been dreaming of a large shed in that place to hold our lawnmower and various things now taking up space in our garage -- spare tires, tools, outdoor furniture -- the usual suspects ☺. So my husband borrowed a back hoe/excavator and he and our son set about getting the piece of land ready.
Tuesday, while I was watering our tomatoes, I saw glass bottles of different shapes and colors lying on top of our wood pile like sparkling little gems in the morning sun. I knew the guys had unearthed them. I could almost hear my husband saying -- "we better save those -- you know your Mom will like them."
So on an ordinary day, I cleaned the dirty bits off my treasures in my kitchen sink. I then placed them at the back of my ordinary stove. They feel at home. Yes, Honey, I like them ♥
What are your thoughts? What wonderful ordinary things have happened to you today?
