Catching up

I recently spent an afternoon at the lake. Fun with my sisters -- swimming, sunning, roasting marshmallows and hot dogs on a charcoal fire (nothing better than a charcoal-grilled hot dog!).

Catching up.

There’s something about that lake with the blue-gray mountains in the background and the magical little shore line on the far side. It brings back the days when our mom and dad packed us up in the Catalina with a large beach blanket, some towels and a picnic lunch. My younger brother and I always managed to meet friends-for-the-day kids from a few blankets down ☺ Are there any better?

As I relaxed at our picnic table, I watched young couples with their children, older people holding hands – grandparents, grandchildren. One father was starting toward the beach area, totes and sand toys in hand. His little girl followed, taking about four steps to each one of his.

Sometimes that’s how life goes – we may need to take more steps than another to reach our destination, but we get there.

Like my sisters and I and that little girl, we’re just catching up.
